Tooth-Colored Fillings
Dental fillings are typically the first line of defense when tooth decay has occurred or a cavity has formed. Once the decay has been completely removed, dental fillings are placed in the spaces damaged or weakened by decay to restore optimal health, function and appearance to the tooth. Traditional dental fillings are made of amalgam (metal), which although effective in restoring normal chewing ability, leaves an unattractive mark in the mouth. Dr. Fitzgerald can fill cavities and replace old amalgam fillings with tooth-colored fillings. Made of composite resin, tooth-colored fillings are safe, long-lasting and blend in seamlessly.
Dental Inlays and Onlays
Dental inlays and onlays are dental restorations that offer more coverage than dental fillings. They are usually recommended for treating dental damage that is too large to be properly treated with a filling but that does not require a dental crown. Dr. Fitzgerald creates inlays and onlays using composite resin material to ensure natural-looking results.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are caps that recreate the entire exterior appearance of a tooth. They can be used to strengthen teeth that have experienced extensive damage or been treated with a root canal. They can also be used to replace missing teeth, in which case the crowns are anchored by a dental implant surgically inserted into the jawbone. Dr. Fitzgerald offers same day dental crowns with the innovative CEREC technology. CEREC uses sophisticated digital imaging and computer software to create and place highly customized dental crowns. The information is sent to our on-site milling unit, which will fabricate the dental crown from a block of high-quality porcelain. Porcelain crowns are durable and extremely natural-looking.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are restorations used to bridge the gap left behind by missing teeth. There are several types of bridges available. Traditional dental bridges consist of an artificial tooth supported by two dental crowns. Bridges can be placed on their own or anchored by one or more dental implants for enhanced stability and support; the latter are called implant-supported dental bridges.
Dental Implants
Dental implants replace missing teeth in their entirety, from root to crown. Implants are usually placed over the course of two dental appointments. During the first appointment, Dr. Fitzgerald takes measurements of your mouth, as well as impressions that will be used to create your replacement tooth or teeth. Next, an oral surgeon will insert the implant post or screw into the jawbone. Once the jawbone has fully healed and the implant post has properly integrated with the surrounding tissue and bone, Dr. Fitzgerald will place the replacement tooth or teeth. Dental implants can be used to replace one, several or all missing teeth in the lower or upper arches of the jaw.
Full and Partial Dentures
Dentures are designed to replace several teeth (in the form of partial dentures) or all missing teeth (in the form of full dentures) in the lower or upper arches of the jaw. Dentures can be removable or they can remain in place with dental implants (implant-supported dentures).
Full Mouth Reconstruction
This multi-step treatment involves two or more restorative dental procedures to rehabilitate several or all teeth in the lower, upper or both arches of the jaw. Full mouth reconstruction is tailored to address an individual patient’s dental needs.
