Sudbury same day dental crownsIf one or more of your teeth have weakened or broken down due to decay or wear and tear over time, dental crowns may be the best solution to restore your smile’s resilience. Today’s crowns can be crafted from beautiful porcelain material, giving individuals with damaged or missing teeth a second chance at a healthy and natural-looking smile.

While high-quality dental materials certainly make a difference in results, the true deciding factor in whether dental crown treatment is successful or not is the dentist you work with. Dr. Mia Fitzgerald’s advanced dental training has focused on utilizing the best methods and technologies in dentistry to consistently deliver exceptional results to her patients. Among the most exciting innovations available at Dr. Fitzgerald’s practice is the Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic system, also known as CEREC. With CEREC, Dr. Fitzgerald can plan, create and place beautifully fabricated porcelain dental crowns in a single appointment. And there is no wait time; you regain your smile as soon as treatment is over.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are caps that recreate the entire exterior of a missing or damaged tooth. They can be used to strengthen weakened teeth that have been damaged due to disease, injury or ongoing wear and tear. Dental crowns are a popular and highly effective restorative treatment as they can strengthen the bite, making chewing and eating easier and more comfortable. Dental crowns can also be used for cosmetic purposes. They can improve the appearance of misshapen or discolored teeth. Or, they can conceal noticeable cracks, chips or spaces in between the teeth.

Types of Dental Crowns

There are several types of dental crowns, and Dr. Fitzgerald can help you select the type that is best for your needs and goals. Traditional dental crowns are made of metal, which although strong and durable, makes the crowns conspicuous and therefore unattractive to many people. Porcelain dental crowns are a more aesthetically pleasing alternative. Dr. Fitzgerald offers both all-porcelain crowns and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns.

Same Day Dental Crowns with CEREC

In order to place a dental crown, Dr. Fitzgerald must first prepare the affected tooth. She will thoroughly remove decay while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. She will then use CEREC’s digital camera to scan the tooth and mouth, capturing their exact measurements that will be used to place the dental crown. The scans will be transferred to the CEREC software, which will create a three-dimensional model of the planned restoration within minutes. Dr. Fitzgerald will then use a shade guide to select the color of your crown.

Once the dental crown has been designed, Dr. Fitzgerald will send the design to our onsite CEREC milling unit, which will create the crown from a block of porcelain. This process only takes a few minutes, during which you can relax in your dental chair. Once the restoration is ready, Dr. Fitzgerald will use the digital map created by CEREC to position the crown in place. Once she checks your bite and ensures the crown fits perfectly in your mouth, she will buff and polish it for a seamless finish.
