As much as we would like to believe otherwise, not everyone is thrilled about visiting the dentist. In fact, many people report experiencing some degree of anxiety or fear about visiting the dentist — so much so that they avoid getting dental work altogether. Unfortunately, this can lead to serious oral health problems, not to mention invasive and costly dental treatment in the future.
About Oral Sedation
Oral sedation administered through a pill prior to treatment is a mild form of sedation. The sedative pill has a calming effect, making you drowsy and less aware of what is happening during treatment. Oral sedation does not relieve pain, so a local anesthetic can be used to numb the areas being treated. It can take about 24 hours for the full effects of oral sedation to wear off, which means you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after your treatment.
Don’t let fear or anxiety prevent you from getting the dental care you need. To learn more about sedation dentistry, schedule an appointment with the practice of Dr. Mia Fitzgerald. Please call or email our Sudbury office today.
